RE: What are you pulling with your Chevy Trailblazer?

I am towing an 06 Starcraft Antigua 215SSO with a 2008 GMC Envoy I6 with 3.42 rear. I figure the Trailer weighed around 4500#. This year I was a little worried since we were taking a very long trip From PA to Fort Wilderness FL (Just Returned). The Envoy worked out very well and I was impressed. I also found that towing in 3rd gear works best, is recommened and doesn't change the fuel consumption much. I do think or recommend that you consider a Tranny cooler. The Envoys Tranny's come with the cooler as standard but I think it was a option with the Chevys. Something I discovered when shopping for a replacement TV. You should be safe with anything 23 ft and under. Also, Remember anything with a slide is going to increase your weight, so you might be able to go larger with no slides but I prefer a slide out.

RE: leak tests as yearly maintenance?

I am actually going to have this done next week since I discovered a leak in the bathroom. I was in Fort Wilderness Last Monday and we had a storm (It wasn't Fay, TG!) I discovered an internal roof seam where the Bathroom exhaust fan overlaps it was dripping. I will probably test it again tomorrow since we are supposed to get hit with remnants of Hanna tomorrow. I have a Vent cover and I checked the roof and did not see any cracks. Is it possible that if it had rained so hard that it got into the vent cover and filled the seams? I am afraid to caulk for fear that the water might find a different place to go. Right now, if is going to leak, the bathroom is the place for it to happen.

RE: Lost battle with Starcraft

Just out of Curiosity Chuck and any of you other posters, How many of you re-caulk that thin bead where your laminate face-board meets the outer metal frame on any of your bunkends? Please note, Chuck since you seem to be an authority here and assume that it is my fault that it is delaminating based on improper care. Dealer found no water damage but speculate that the thin bead of caulk at the base of the bunkend failed to repel water which expanded in winter storage. The question arose whether the dealer should go to bat for me. They did to an extent. Gave me options which included contacting Starcraft myself. Starcraft's roof is warranted for 12 years. The bunkend's tents are 7 years. But the caulk as well as the rest of the unit are only warranted for 1 year and if that is the final case then I'll accept it until such time it is ready for a new one or an upgrade. I really do like and enjoy this RV but I grow tired when something I really enjoy starts having issues early in it's life or life with me due to poor workmanship. And Chuck, don't assume and speculate for one moment that this is neglect or an improperly maintained RV. This is simply not the case!

RE: Help with choosing a HTT

Brett K, Do your home work. There are a lot of decent HTTs. Starcraft, Roo, Jayco, Palomino etc. Make sure the interior comforts conform to you. I am a big guy, 6'5 275, so the shower needed to be big enough so I stood in the showers of a lot of RVs at RV shows. I sat on the John with the door closed, to ensure I wasn't cramped. I do sometimes bump my head on the AC vent. The layout and space really matters especially if you get a rotten weekend and your are stuck inside. DW liked the white interior of the Antigua as opposed to the traditional wood grain. As for WD, I would get it. Not sure about the ridgeline's suspension but I had an 05 Envoy XL (pictured in Profile) now have an 08 envoy. shorter wheel base. the 05 had bilstein shocks, I changed the settings on WD thinking it would do better, not the case. Felt like the trailer was dictating where to go as opposed to the tow vehicle. Haven't even considered what it would be like if I had no WD. Good Luck!

RE: Lost battle with Starcraft

I guess anything is possible. I am in a Holding pattern. I have basically been watching it to see if it gets worse. If I could just get under it to glue it, I would be happy. A new panel is approximately $700 to 800. As for Starcraft's reputation, I am new to it so far I was happy. They repaired a rip in one of my bunkends but then again it was under warranty. Cutlerbay, That water on your bathroom floor might be coming from your shower hose. There is a drain hole underneath the faucets that, once you shut off the water, drains and unless you are perfectly level, it is going to the floor and not the tub. I put a bead of caulk on both sides of the faucet to direct the water into the tub.

RE: Slide out topper

I'd be careful with cleaning it. Mine needed a cleaning. used Fantastik (which smells exactly like Awning cleaner by the way but a little cheaper) It cleaned well but I noticed some popped stitching where the topper attached to the HTT. I was concerned if I was pressing too hard to scrub the stubborn stains. This is my 3rd season and hope to get many more out of it.

RE: Starcraft Stove cover???

Jim, I was looking for my Antigua. I just purchased a CAMCO Hardwood Stove Topper from Camping World. It came with a slotted rubber feet that are screwed in to holes on the underside specifically aligned for the different types of stoves. It comes with a template. The Stove Grates or grill fit into the slots and the topper remains in place. I am really impressed with it since it can actually be used and increases counter space. http://www.campingworld.com/shopping/item/hardwood-stove-topper-cutting-board/8648 Steve

RE: Tires Balanced ?....WTH

I was told that here is no need to balance the tires. I was also told It might not be a bad idea since the tires are different from the originals. My old tires were bias, the new ones are radials. Basically got a new set of five at no charge, (that's another story), had them mounted, balanced and filled with nitrogen (part of the package). They recommended balancing in order to avoid the possibility of vibrations. As for the nitrogen, will it increase my mileage? Probably not but it will keep them cooler. I'll let you know how they do when I return from 2000+ mile trek to Fort Wilderness and back in 3 weeks.

RE: Weight on rear bumper

My rear bumper is welded so I would be concerned about mounting to it. Just thought of this now. If it is not recommended to add a rack to the rear with the tire, What about moving or relocating the spare tire so that you could put a bike rack on the rear. Question would be where to or could you relocate the spare?

RE: towing a htt

As for the 18 wheelers. they even sway when they pass each other. Just depends how fast they are going and you need to be mindful of your surroundings. I am towing a 4500# HTT with a 6cyl GMC Envoy and it tows fine now that I got the weight distribution right but that does not mean I don't feel the big rigs pass me. You can't tell me that that 5ver doesn't feel it 18 wheeler when it passes.

RE: Weight on rear bumper

Hi, Like he said, it's coming! there is a bizillion posts regarding this subject on this forum. I have even posted about it so be warned. 1. Ask your dealer. I was told by by dealer that neither a rear or front bike rack on my trailer was a good idea. The rear bumper is not made for it and could bend the bumper. 2. those bikes will bounce like crazy and how will you know if you lose one or 2 or the rack, you cannot see them. Front rack will increase the tongue weight. dealer said if I cannot mount them ontop of TV, I should put them inside trailer. Good luck!

RE: NY to Myrtle Beach still avoid I95 near DC?

Was on 78 headed west bound 2 weeks ago from Allentown area and just before Harrisburg we hit that all merge, form single lane which took a while just to merge. this was 7 pm on a Friday night. I'm heading to Fort Wilderness in August and was instructed to avoid 295 due to very bumpy road conditions and also to avoid the WW bridge. Basically 95 to 695 to 95 again then to 495 to 95 again. this is uncharted territory for me. When I went to Virginia a couple of years ago, I took 301, not bad but it has lights and it seems that every time I got up to speed I was braking again for the light.

PA to Disney Fort Wilderness end of August

Traveling 95 to 695 to Circumvent the Fort McHenry Tunnel. Would it be better to head straight for 95 again or do what google maps is suggesting and take 295 south and I guess we would cross the Potomac south of DC, at Alexandria and then get back on 95? Heard DC can be a real pain. travel day is Saturday. Will probably stop in Lumberton NC unless someone can recommend a preferred stopping spot to camp for the night along the way

RE: Travelstar 21sso Slideout problem

The Sofa has a kick plate on the front (that flappy thing that the backs of your legs and heels touch when sitting). There are buttons that pop off on this kick plate that expose 2 Phillips screws. remove the screws and you can view the whole mechanism.

RE: Travelstar 21sso Slideout problem

Hi. Had an issue with mine this Memorial day weekend temporarily. In the driveway it worked fine. Got to the CG and started to setup but would not open, like it had no power. Not very happy I continued setup, it wasn't until I ensured it was level especially in the rear, did it finally open and it also closed with no problems. I was told in other forums that not being level may cause the slide not to operate. I have not had a problem since and hopefully never will

RE: RVQ grill and side of trailer getting hot

I have had that RVQ get real hot though not too worried about the side of the RV. it sticks out pretty far. What creates the major flare ups is those frozen beef patties from the supermarket and all that grease sits at the bottom, under the burner. you just need to clean it after every use or let it burn off but that is how it gets hot. I cook breakfast on it using a griddle. That usually burns off the excess but not always. Temporarily stick an outdoor thermometer on the rv behind the RVQ and see how hot it gets. Could either put your mind at ease or scare you, 50/50 shot but at least you'll know.

RE: what to pack for a HTT.

Since you are moving from a Pup to HTT. You may or may not have these things. Check with your dealer since they might have it. It is an RV starter kit(includes sewer hose, fresh water hose, water pressure regulator, tank treatment, toilet tissue, 15a to 30 a adapter) this list can continue depending on how much you want to spend. a 2 x 6 might be good to ensure leveling, definitely need lug wrench or the like.

RE: Starcraft Travelstar 21SSO

Hello. I have a 2006 Starcraft Antigua 215SSO which is basically the same as the Travelstar with the exception of interior and exterior color. I measured the width of mine and it is 14 inches.

RE: Lost battle with Starcraft

I guess the question I should have asked is What would you do? i am not even sure how much one would cost. right now I am doing nothing and will probably deal with it since I still really like the Trailer.

Lost battle with Starcraft

After a week and half of my dealer fighting a battle regarding the Front Bunkend DeLaminating on my Antigua 215SSO and trying to get Starcraft to cover it. Starcraft won't cover it, says it is out of Warranty. It's 2 years old! Definitely something to think about when I decide to replace it. Very disappointing. They questioned water damage, Dealer said none that they could find and nothing to interior which was good. Options: Replace the bunkend. Do nothing and see if it gets worse then consider replacing the bunkend. wildcard - try to reseat and glue it back down (not really an option for me since I am not too handy).
